TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Mira Radu and Virginia Tomatis' run in doubles came to an end Monday at the ITA Southern Regionals in Tuscaloosa, Ala. The Ole Miss pair was defeated in the finals by Alexis Gordon and Julia Scaringe of Florida, 8-2.
Radu and Tomatis came into the match seeded 5th while Gordon and Scaringe were seeded second. Despite the loss, Lady Rebel head coach Mark Beyers was pleased with his players' effort.
"They fell behind early and it was just hard for them to get in a rhythm being in that situation," said Beyers. "However, I'm proud of them and how they performed this weekend. We (coaches) knew Radu and Tomatis could be good, and they showed it this weekend. It seems like we found ourselves a doubles team."
When looking at the weekend as a whole, Beyers saw many positives, but also many things the team could improve on.
"I was a little disappointed with our performance in singles," said Beyers. "Granted, we did play some tough draws, but there were some close matches we could have won. Viriginia and Mira played many top ten teams in doubles, so for them to advance all the way to the finals was just what the doctor ordered."
On the strength of her national ranking of 17th, Radu will be in Dallas, Texas in two weeks to compete in the ITA National Indoor Championships.
