Rebel Rifle Team Claims Tiger Invitational Behind Freshman Shooter

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Ole Miss Rifle team claimed its second meet of the season, taking the Memphis Invitational behind the solid shooting of freshman Megan Sandage with a score of 1510. The title marks the second straight year that Ole Miss has won the Invitational.
The shooting took place over the course of the weekend, with the Rebels shooting on Thursday, but having to wait to find out the final standings as each team competed throughout the weekend.
"We are really excited to see that we are getting such solid performances from our team," said head coach Valerie Boothe. "The scores are a little lower overall than we had in the first outing, but several individuals performed well, improving over the first week."
Sandage, upped her scores from the first meet at home, firing a 386 to finish third overall in the competition. The Sutter, Calif., native paced the team for the second straight week as she fired a 385, finishing first in the opening meet at Ole Miss.
Junior Kristin Parker fired a 380 to take a seventh place finish overall, while sophomores Megan Roberts and Shanda Duval fired a 374 and 370, respectively to round out the points unit for the Rebels.
Ole Miss had several players compete as individuals in the Memphis event. Freshman Samantha Leach had the highest score of all Rebels competing as an individual, as the Orlando, Fla., native turned in a score of 380 to take sixth place. Freshman Laura Gavin posted a 376 to finish in the No. 12 spot overall.
Team captain, and lone senior, Maranda Stockton rounded out the competition for Ole Miss as she fired a 370.
