Rebels Use Strong Final Round To PUll Into Top 10

NEWPORT, R.I. - The Ole Miss men's golf team recovered from a slow start the first day and turned in the third lowest score of the final round to take a ninth place finish at the Adams Cup of Newport on Wednesday, firing a 305-301-285-891.
The tournament, which was scheduled to play two rounds on Tuesday and one on Wednesday, was altered due to darkness on Tuesday. The second round was completed Wednesday before moving to a new course for the final round of competition.
Junior Jordan Dempsey exhibited solid play throughout the course of the tournament, finishing tied for 16th overall, his second top 20 finish of the season after three tournaments. Dempsey fired a three day score of 73-75-71-219 for the finish.
Sophomore Jarrod Gardner turned in the second highest score of the event for Ole Miss, firing a 78-76-69-223 to finish tied for 27th overall. Gardner's 69 in the third round tied him for the second lowest score on the day.
Junior transfer Pope Spruiell finished fired a 79-74-74-227 to finish tied for 40th on the afternoon, while senior Brian Swope recorded a three-round total of 75-82-71-228 to tie for 45th. The Adams Cup marks only the second tournament in which Swope has competed while at Ole Miss, and the tie for 45th is his career-best finish as a Rebel.
Sophomore Bryan Kane rounded out the scoring for the Rebels, as he fired an 80-76-75-231 to tie for 59th overall.
The Rebels will have a couple of days rest before heading back out on the road to compete again. Ole Miss will participate in the Gary Koch/Cleveland Golf Intercollegiate in Tampa, Fla., next week. The tournament will be played on Oct. 14-15.
