UP NEXT: Ole Miss will have an off-week before traveling to Baton Rouge, La., for a game with SEC-rival LSU on Saturday, Nov. 23. Game time has been set for 7:30 p.m. (CST) and will be televised by ESPN2.
GEORGIA GAME RECAP: Georgia QB David Greene completed 12-of-22 passes for 206 yards with two TDs and one interception, and RB Musa Smith grinded out 148 yards rushing on 37 carries as the seventh-ranked Bulldogs defeated Ole Miss 31-17 last Saturday night in Athens, Ga. Trailing 21-17 at halftime, the Rebel offense coudn't get in sync in the second half as Ole Miss ran just 20 offensive plays on five possessions. The Bulldogs controlled the clock for nearly 21 minutes in the second half, including running out the final 10:46 with a 19-play, 73-yard drive. Junior RB Tremaine Turner rushed for a career-high 89 yards on 19 carries and scored both of the Rebels' touchdowns. He scored on an eight-yard run with 8:13 left in the first quarter to tie the game at 7-7 and added a one-yard scoring leap with 4:58 left in the second to even the score again at 14-14. Georgia took the lead for good with 1:49 left in the first half on a 17-yard scoring pass from Greene to Fred Gibson. Ole Miss cut the lead to 21-17 with 26 seconds left in the half on Jonathan Nichols' 24-yard field goal. The Bulldogs scored on a 40-yard field goal from Billy Bennett and a 33-yard TD pass from Greene to Terrence Edwards in the third quarter for the 31-17 final.
THE LSU SERIES: Next Saturday's meeting with LSU will be the 91st between the two schools since 1894. LSU is the second-most played opponent for Ole Miss, behind only Mississippi State. The Rebels and Bulldogs will meet for the 99th time on Thanksgiving Night. LSU holds a 49-37-4 advantage in the series. However, the Rebels have won four of the last five meetings since 1997. Ole Miss won last year's game, 35-24 at Tiger Stadium to give the Rebels three straight wins in Baton Rouge for the first time since winning four straight from 1953-1956. All-time in Baton Rouge, the Tigers hold a 33-24-1 advantage against the Rebels.
REBEL RAMBLINGS: Ole Miss needs one win to become bowl eligible for the fifth straight year. The Rebels went to four straight bowls from 1997-2000, and was 7-4 last year but did not receive a bowl berth ... With one win, Ole Miss would record its sixth straight season with at least six wins since going 5-6 in 1996 ... Ole Miss' four-game losing streak is its longest since dropping four consecutive in 1994 ... The Rebels have not lost five straight since losing their final five games of the 1991 season ... All four losses have come in the SEC play to mark Ole Miss' longest SEC losing skid since 1994 ... The 1991 season was also the last time the Rebels dropped five straight conference games ... Last Saturday's loss at Georgia marked the Rebels' fifth consecutive road defeat since Ole Miss defeated LSU, 35-24 last year in Baton Rouge ... The five straight road losses is the Rebels' longest road skid since dropping eight straight during a stretch from 1992-1994.
NOTING ELI: Was 12-of-25 for 176 yards and two interceptions last weekend at Georgia ... The contest marked only the third time in 21 career starts that he was held without a TD pass ... 2,663 passing yards this season is third on the Ole Miss single season list, four yards shy of Stewart Patridge in second place with 2,667 ... Needs 285 yards passing to tie his own school season record of 2,948 yards set last year ... 370 passing attempts this season is 38 shy of his Ole Miss season record of 408 set in 2001 ... Is currently second on the school's single season list for total offense with 2,580, 377 yards shy of his own mark of 2,957 set last year ... Leads the SEC in passing yards per game (266.3 ypg) and total offense per game (258.0).
OFFENSIVE NOTES: Junior RB Tremaine Turner's (Springfield, Tenn.) career-high 89 yards rushing against Georgia was the highest individual total by a Rebel since senior Robert Williams (Gadsden, Ala.) gained 107 yards against Memphis on Sept. 7 ... Turner also had a 16-yard reception to account for a career-high 105 all-purpose yards ... Sophomore WR Bill Flowers' (Pelham, Ala.) 44 receptions this season is 12 shy of LeMay Thomas' Ole Miss season record of 56 set in 1995 ... With 84 combined receptions, Flowers and junior Chris Collins (Gloster, Miss.) rank as the fourth-best single-season receivng tandem in school history, 17 shy of the record of 101 set by Thomas and Ta'Boris Fisher in 1995 ... Collins is one TD reception shy of tying both the Ole Miss single-season and career marks for TD receptions. Collins has caught eight TD passes this season, and has 15 for his career ... Collins has caught a pass in 19 straight games and is one of three Rebels with streaks of at least 10 games. Flowers has caught a pass in 16 straight games and senior Jason Armstead (Moss Point, Miss.) has a reception in 14 consecutive games ... Armstead needs 74 all purpose yards to reach the 2,000-yard mark for his career.
DEFENSIVE NOTES: Ole Miss recorded one sack at Georgia and has registered at least one in 30 of its last 31 games ... Sophomore FS Eric Oliver recorded his first career sack against the Bulldogs, dropping QB David Greene for a nine-yard loss in the first quarter ... Junior DB Wes Scott intercepted his first career pass in the first quarter in the first quarter last Saturday.
SPECIAL TEAMS NOTES: Sophomore PK Jonathan Nichols (Greenwood, Miss.) has made 42 consecutive PATs dating back to last year, the fourth longest streak in school history ... Nichols' 19-yard field goal attempt that was blocked in the first quarter at Georgia marked his first miss in seven tries since missing a 36-yarder against Memphis on Sept. 7.
