To compete in the Southeastern Conference, you need a little finesse and a whole lot of power. The "power game" is evident in football, but it also plays a huge factor in other sports. The more power athletes you have, the better your chances for success. For the Lady Rebel basketball squad, Tywanna Inmon is one of those power players that is also a team leader on and off the court.
The 6-foot-1 forward burst upon the scene as a freshman in 2000-01, averaging 9.5 points and 5.4 rebounds. She increased those averages in SEC play with 10.1 points and 6.1 boards. The Lady Rebel Newcomer Award recipient had four double-doubles, with three coming in SEC action. Inmon began her sophomore season where she has left off the previous year, but injuries forced her to miss several games in the middle of the 2001-02 campaign. Despite the injuries, she averaged 6.1 points and 4.9 rebounds. Inmon has worked hard in the off-season and expectations are high for her and the Lady Rebels in 2002-03.
The West Memphis, Ark., native also has the "power" game in the classroom. Inmon holds a 3.32 grade-point average while majoring in Marketing. Named to the University of Mississippi Athletic Association (UMAA) Honor Roll the past two semesters, Inmon is a member of the Rebel 3.0 Club which recognizes student-athletes with cumulative GPAs of 3.0 and higher. She has been active in the Ole Miss CHAMPS Life Skills program, and this year, Inmon will serve as the student-athlete representative on the Committee for Intercollegiate Athletics.
For excellence in both basketball and academics, Tywanna Inmon is this week's Allstate Insurance Student-Athlete of the Week.
