OXFORD, Miss (AP) - Justin Reed scored 22 points and three other Mississippi players finished in double figures Saturday as the Rebels beat Virginia Commonwealth 82-68.
The win was the fourth straight for the Rebels (4-1), who extended to 15 their winning streak at home. Ole Miss has won 54 of the last 55 home games against non-conference competition.
Reed, a preseason candidate for the Wooden Award, had been off to a slow start this season, averaging 11 points. The junior forward hit 8-of-14 from the field, including a three-pointer and 5-of-6 free throws for his best performance of the season.
David Sanders added 21 points, Derrick Allen had 15 and Aaron Harper had 14 for the Rebels, who used 10-1 and 10-2 runs in the final nine minutes of the first half to dispatch VCU (3-3).
Willie Taylor led the Rams with 20 points. The loss snapped a VCU three-game winning streak.
Ole Miss hit 32-of-60 from the field, including 10-of-15 from Sanders, who added a game-high seven assists.
Dominic Jones had 13 points, while Troy Godwin had 12 points and a game-high 12 rebounds for the Rams. VCU managed only 27-of-63 from the field.
Ole Miss, after trailing 17-15 with 9:12 left in the first half, went on a 10-1 run and never relinquished the lead after that.
The Rams pulled to 63-52 on a three-point shot by Antoine Willie with 7:27 left. Ole Miss responded with eight unanswered points and built their biggest lead, 80-58 on a Reed dunk with 3:18 left.
