OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss head coach David Cutcliffe announced Thursday the signing of Iroko Ayodele to a national letter of intent to play football for the Rebels. The Saucier, Miss., native will enroll in school for the spring semester.
"We are excited that Iroko will be joining our team in January and that he will participate in spring practice," said Cutcliffe. "He is a fine young man and a very talented player. We look forward to Iroko and his family joining our football program."
Ayodele signed with Ole Miss out of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, where he earned two letters under the direction of head coach Bill Lee. Ayodele finished the 2002 season with 44 tackles, including 29 solo hits, plus one quarterback sack. He garnered Coaches All-State Second Team honors for his efforts and was also named one of the Top 25 JUCO players in the state of Mississippi by The Clarion-Ledger.
Ayodele played outside linebacker for the Bulldogs and was named the team's Most Valuable Linebacker under position coach Stevon Moore, a four-time letter winner at Ole Miss from 1985-88. Despite playing linebacker during his junior college career, the 6-1, 200 pound Ayodele is expected to play defensive back for the Rebels.
The Bulldogs of MGCCC posted a 4-5 record, missing the playoffs by one game after finishing 3-3 in conference play.
