ST. AUGUSTINE - The Ole Miss softball team dropped its second one-run game of the weekend, falling 4-2 in a rematch with tournament-host Central Florida Sunday in the Gold Medal game of the UCF/Triple Crown Classic. The Rebels (5-2) finish fourth in the event with a 3-2 tourney mark.

Freshman Lindsey Whatley (2-1) struck out a season-high nine Golden Knights in five innings but surrendered back-to-back singles that opened a three-run Knight game-winning rally in the sixth inning.

Ole Miss took its first lead, 2-1, in the top of the sixth. Desiree Layman picked up her second double of the game and then scored on a DeDe Justice misplayed ground ball. Andrea Brahs followed with an RBI-single to centerfield to put the Rebels ahead by one.

However, Central Florida (6-3) responded in the bottom of the inning, behind a back-to-back run-scoring singles by Sarah Miller and Stephanie Best off UM reliever Leslie Day. Dottie Cupp (4-2) limited the Rebels to four hits in the win.

On Friday, Ole Miss opened the tournament with a 3-2 win over UCF and a 3-1 win over Marshall to raise its perfect record to 4-0. Sophomore transfer Becky Testin blasted her first home run as Rebel against the Thundering Herd and finished the twin bill with three hits and three runs scored.

Day two saw the Rebels suffer their first defeat of the season in a heartbreaking 1-0 loss to Purdue, but rebound for a 7-1 blowout of Florida A&M. Day and Lindsay Price allowed only two runs on eight hits combined in the two games.

Justice and Testin garnered all-tournament honors for the Rebels.

Next up for Ole Miss is its home debut this weekend at the Rebel/Easton Invitational in Oxford. The two-day event begins Saturday at 10 a.m. CST and features Evansville, Nicholls State and Tennessee-Martin joining the Rebels at Ole Miss Softball Complex.
