Women's Tennis Blanks Loyola Marymount 7-0

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. - ,The 34th-ranked Ole Miss women's tennis team hopes to move up in the rankings this week, after posting two convincing victories this weekend in California, including Sunday's 7-0 win over 66th-ranked Loyola Marymount. On Friday, the Lady Rebels downed the 60th-ranked San Diego 7-0.
Against Loyola Marymount, the Lady Rebels (5-0) took a 1-0 in the match by winning all three doubles matches. Alesya Ignatieva and Audra Adams remained undefeated in dual matches at the No. 1 spot with their 8-6 win over LMU's Andrea Lord and Angelina Zdovovytika.
In singles, Ole Miss won all six matches in straight sets, led by 25th-ranked Mira Radu, who cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 win over Lord at the top spot. She has now won nine of her last 10 matches.
Ignatieva downed Edit Pakay 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2 singles, Karem Harboe dominated Penka Filevna 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. Florencia Basile defeated Zdovovytika 7-6(4), 6-3 at the No. 4 position.
At No. 5 singles, Lady Rebel Sabrina Peppl won her first set against LMU's Georgie Dinhim 7-6(4) and then dominated in the second 6-0, to win her third match in a row. Adams, playing in her hometown, made it two consecutive wins, as she downed Julie Ladik 6-2, 6-3 at No. 6 singles.
"We are very pleased to come away with two convincing wins in both our matches this weekend," head coach Mark Beyers said. "We played a complete match against Loyola Marymount from top to bottom. It was good to see us continue to dominate as the match played out. We are looking forward to South Alabama coming to Oxford Friday."
The Lady Rebels return to action this Friday as the host South Alabama in a key regional matchup. The match will be played at 1 p.m. at the Gillom Sports Center or if weather permits, at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center.
