Ole Miss Splits Pair In Day One Of Softball Tourney

OXFORD, Miss. -- The Ole Miss softball team split a pair of games in its home debut Saturday in day one the Rebel/Easton Invitational. Sunday's five-game slate begins at 10 a.m. CST with the Rebels (6-3) playing at 2 and 4 p.m. at Ole Miss Softball Complex.
Ole Miss' first game on Saturday saw Andrea Brahs drive in four runs in leading a 6-2 knockout of Tennessee-Martin. After Britte Hardy put the Rebels ahead 2-0 in the second inning with a two-out, two-run single, Brahs, a sophomore transfer from Indian River Community College, tripled home two runs in the third and doubled in two more in the fifth.
Leslie Day (2-1) tossed her third complete game of the season in the victory. The junior from Nesbit, Miss., limited the Skyhawks (1-2) to five hits while tallying a career-high seven strikeouts.
Ole Miss fell behind early in the following game against Evansville. The Purple Aces (4-4) exploded for four runs on six hits in the first, and held off a strong Rebel charge for the 6-3 win.
Freshman DeDe Justice belted her fourth home run of the season in the bottom of the first to cut the UE lead in half. Fellow UM rookie Brooke Turner doubled and later scored on an fielding error in the fifth to pull Ole Miss within one at 4-3.
However, the Rebels would get no closer as the Aces tacked on two more runs in the seventh. Emily Winters and Joni Woods each collected two hits and an RBI, while righthander Katie Markle held Ole Miss to five hits. Lindsay Price (2-1) suffered the complete-game loss for the Rebels.
Evansville closed out day one of the Invitational with a 2-1 mark, while Ole Miss and Nicholls State were 1-1. UTM is 1-2 entering final day action on Sunday.
