ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - The Ole Miss softball team suffered its first loss of the young season but rebounded with a blowout Saturday in day two of the UCF/Triple Crown Classic. The Rebels (5-1) dominated Florida A&M, 7-1, after dropping a heart-breaking 1-0 affair with Purdue.

Back-to-back home runs by DeDe Justice (3) and Andrea Brahs (1) keyed a four-run Rebel third inning that lifted Ole Miss to the five-inning mercy rule victory over FAMU (2-3). Justice drove in three runs in the game, while Brahs notched a pair of hits. Megan Kozar batted 3-for-3 to lead the Rebels' 11-hit attack.

UM righthander Lindsay Price (2-0) scattered six hits in recording her second win of the tournament. Javetta Dryer led the Rattlerettes at the plate, going 3-for-3, but took the loss on the mound, allowing five runs on six hits before exiting in the third.

The early game saw Ole Miss' perfect 2002 start come to an end in a one-run battle. Rebel hurler Leslie Day and Boilermaker Meagan Dooley both took no-hitters into the fifth inning, but it was only Purdue that was able to break it up.

After two fifth-inning Rebel errors allowed a pair of Boilermakers to reach base, Purdue (2-1) broke the scoreless drought when Andrea Hillsey scored on the back end of a double steal. Andrea Roush then ended Day's no-hit bid with a single up the middle.

A junior from Nesbit, Miss., Day (1-1) finished the game with two hits allowed and the one unearned run in the complete-game loss. Dooley (1-0) totaled eight strikeouts in her third career no-hitter.

Sunday's championship and consolation brackets of the nine-team Triple Crown Classic will be determined at the completion of Saturday's games. Ole Miss sits in the upper half of the standings with a 3-1 tourney mark.
