Women's Tennis Suffers 4-3 Loss At Auburn

AUBURN, Ala. - The Auburn women's tennis team, ranked No. 47 upset 36th-ranked Ole Miss in a come from behind 4-3 victory at the Luther Young Tennis Center Friday afternoon. With the loss, the Lady Rebels drop to 6-6 overall and 0-5 in the SEC, while Auburn moves its record to 8-3 overall and 2-2 in league play.
The Tigers put the first point on the board by winning the doubles. Ole Miss won at No. 1 doubles, but Auburn's tandem of Petra Bercik and Carolina Ramirez beat Lady Rebels' Karem Harboe and Florencia Basile on court two, 8-3. On court three, Sarah Suitor and Liz Sauerborn of Auburn defeated Mira Radu and Camilla Gould of Ole Miss, 8-4 to clinch the point.
Ole Miss would go ahead 2-1 with straight-set victories at the top two spots. Mira Radu downed Katia Illarionova 6-3, 6-0 at No. 1 singles and then Alesya Ignatieva finished off Carolina Ramirez 6-1, 6-4 at the No. 2 spot.
Florencia Basile cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 win over Sarah Suitor at No. 5 singles to give the Lady Rebels a 3-1 lead. But, Auburn would win the final three matches to come from behind and win the match.
Audra Adams dropped a 6-1, 2-6, 6-1 decision to Liz Sauerborn at No. 6 singles, and Sabrina Peppl fell to Carolina Maurer 6-0, 4-6, 6-0 at No. 4 singles evening up the match. Auburn's Petra Bercik defeated Karem Harboe in a lengthy two-set match on court two, 6-3, 6-2, to clinch Auburn's first win in the series since 1995.
The Lady Rebels will try for their first SEC win on Sunday, as they face Alabama in Tuscaloosa.
