REBEL GAME NOTES
AT A GLANCE: No. 10 Ole Miss (13-4) looks to even this weekend's three-game series at No. 6 Florida (16-3) when the two teams meet in game two today at 3 p.m. (CST) at McKethan Stadium at Perry Field in Gainesville, Fla. The Gators, winners of five straight, won last night's opener 24-5 to hand the Rebels their worse loss since 24-5 defeat at TCU in 1994. Junior right-hander J.R. Pickens (3-0, 2.08 ERA) will get the start for the Rebels against Florida junior right-hander Alex Hart (5-0, 0.58). Today's game can be heard on stations along the Ole Miss Radio Network beginning at 2:45 p.m., with Gary Darby calling all the action.

LAST TIME OUT: No. 6 Florida hit six home runs, including receiving back-to-back shots by Matt Goss and Ryan Shealy twice during a nine-run six inning as the Gators rolled to a 24-5 win. Shealy finished the night 3-for-7 with six RBIs as he capped the night's scoring with a grand slam in the ninth. Senior right-hander Pete Montrenes (4-1) suffered his first loss of the season, allowing five runs on seven hits and four walks in 4.1 innings. Southpaw Jimmy Ramshaw (2-0) earned the win for the Gators, working seven innings and allowing four runs on 10 hits and one walk, while striking out eight. Jonathan Swearingen and Matt Tolbert recorded three hits each to lead Ole Miss' 15-hit attack, as the two teams combined for 37 hits on the night.

IN THE POLLS: Ole Miss dropped one spot in this week's Collegiate Baseball Top 30 to No. 10, while the Rebels moved up two spots to No. 10 in the Baseball Weekly/ESPN Coaches and National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association polls. Ole Miss also advanced four places in the Baseball America Top 25 to No. 15 ... The Gators are ranked No. 6 in Collegiate Baseball, No. 9 in the Baseball Weekly/ESPN and National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association polls, and No. 12 by Baseball America.

REBELS VS. FLORIDA: Tonight's meeting is the 61st all-time between Ole Miss and Florida ... The Gators lead the series 33-27 ... Last night's win was just Florida's second in the last 12 meetings against the Rebels since 1998, and snapped Ole Miss' four-game win streak in the series ... Ole Miss has won the last three SEC series between the two teams ... Ole Miss is 18-13 all-time against Florida in Oxford, 8-20 in Gainesville and 1-0 in Birmingham, Ala. (2001 SEC Tournament) ... Ole Miss head coach Mike Bianco is 4-1 versus Florida ... Florida head coach Pat McMahon is 11-7 against the Rebels.

AFTER 17 GAMES LAST SEASON: The Rebels were 13-4 after 17 games last season ... Ole Miss was hitting .298 (170x571) with 35 doubles, eight triples, 15 home runs and 108 RBIs ... The Rebels stole 13 bases in 18 attempts and grounded into 12 double plays ... They were outscoring their opponents 125-72 ... Rebel pitchers had a 2.98 ERA (151.0 IP, 50 ER), allowing 128 hits, including eight home runs, walked 59 and had struck out 130 ... Ole Miss had committed 28 errors in 17 games.

REBEL MISCELLANEOUS:
* The Rebels have dropped 14 straight SEC series when losing the opener. The last time Ole Miss came back to win a series after losing the opener was against lSU in 1998.

* Last night's 24-5 loss marked the Rebels worse defeat since losing 24-5 at TCU in 1994.

* Prior to last night, the last time Ole Miss allowed 20 or more run in a SEC game was in a 21-6 home loss to Mississippi State on April 25, 1997.

* Last nigt's loss marked the biggest margin of defeat to an SEC opponent since Vanderbilt blanked Ole Miss 21-0 in the 1980 SEC Tournament, played in Gainesville, Fla.

* The 24-5 loss on Friday was the worse regular-season loss to an SEC opponent since 1936, when LSU defeated Ole Miss 28-7.

* Ole Miss has now lost its SEC opener in four of the last six years.

* The Rebels are 2-2-1 in their opening SEC series since 1997, with Ole Miss and Auburn splitting a rain-shortened two-game set in Oxford in 1998.

* Struck out a season-high 10 in a start against Eastern Illinois (8.0 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 0 BB).

* Made his first career relief appearance this past Wednesday at Louisiana-Monroe, working a perfect ninth inning.

Junior College Highlights
* Recorded a 20-6 career record at Blinn Junior College.

* Was first team All-Conference selection in 2001, posting an 11-2 mark with one save and a 3.86 ERA.

* Fanned 110 in 106 innings pitched.
