REBEL GAME NOTES
AT A GLANCE: No. 16 Ole Miss (16-7, 2-4 SEC) will step out of Southeastern Conference play tonight to host the Austin Peay Governors (11-9, 0-0 OVC) in a 6:30 p.m., contest at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field. The contest was originally scheduled for Feb. 26 in Oxford but was postponed due to below freezing temperatures. The Rebels enter tonight's game having won 3-of-4, including taking 2-of-3 from No. 14 LSU this past weekend in a SEC series played in Oxford. Ole Miss won yesterday's rubber-match 10-7 on Josh Christian's eighth-inning grand slam. Austin Peay comes into tonight's game, winners of four of its last six, though, the Govs dropped 2-of-3 to Middle Tennessee this past weekend. Austin Peay routed the Blue Raiders 19-0 on Sunday. Senior left-hander Mike Gray (0-0, 9.00) will make his first start of the year tonight for Ole Miss. The Governors are expected to counter with senior right-hander Mike King (1-0, 3.24). Tonight's game can be heard locally in Oxford on WTNM Supertalk Mississippi 105.5 FM and over the internet at www.OleMissSports.com with David Kellum and Gary Darby. The game, however, will be joined in progress as WTNM will be airing the Rebel Yell Hotline from 6-7 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT: Josh Christian's eighth-inning grand slam lifted No. 16 Ole Miss to a 10-7 win over No. 14 LSU Sunday afternoon to give the Rebels a 2-1 series victory. The Rebels trailed 7-4 entering the eighth, before sending 10 batters to the plate in a six-run inning. Adam Yates worked a perfect ninth to earn his third save of the season. Glen Morris, the third of four Ole Miss pitchers, pitched an inning of relief to earn his first win since March 11, 2000.

MAYOR'S TROPHY TICKETS ON SALE: Tickets for the April 3 Mayor's Trophy game versus Mississippi State in Jackson are currently on sale through phone orders only at the Smith-Wills Stadium Ticket Office. The number to call is (601) 362-2294. Prices are $10 for reserved seats and $6 for general admission. Only Visa and Mastercard is accepted.

IN THE POLLS: Ole Miss was ranked No. 16 in last week's Collegiate Baseball Top 30, No. 17 in the Baseball Weekly/ESPN Coaches Top 25, and No. 24 in the Baseball America Top 25. Austin Peay was unranked. This week's polls were to be released this afternoon.

SCOUTING AUSTIN PEAY: The Governors enter tonight's game hitting .303 as a team. Junior A.J. Ellis and freshman Chris Hyde are the team's top hitters, batting .476 and .411, respectively. Senior Michael Johnson is batting .262 with a team-leading six home runs and has driven in a team-high 26 runs. Johnson has also been successful in 10-of-10 steal attempts, and as a team, Austin Peay has stolen 35 bases in 44 attempts. Governor pitchers have a team ERA of 5.98, and opponents are batting .295 against them with 22 homers. Austin Peay has a team fielding percentage of .955, having committed 34 errors in 20 games.

REBELS VS. GOVERNORS: Tonight's meeting is the 11th all-time between Ole Miss and Austin Peay ... The Rebels lead the series 8-2, and have won four straight since 1999, including last year's meeting 4-0 in Oxford ... Ole Miss leads the series 6-2 in Oxford and 2-0 in Clarksville.

AFTER 23 GAMES LAST SEASON: The Rebels were 17-5-1 after 23 games last season ... Ole Miss was hitting .298 (229x769) with 49 doubles, 10 triples, 22 home runs and 142 RBIs ... The Rebels stole 14 bases in 22 attempts and grounded into 17 double plays ... They were outscoring their opponents 164-97 ... REBEL MISCELLANEOUS: Josh Christian's grand slam yesterday in the eighth inning against LSU was the first by a Rebel since Jude Voltz hit one at Memphis on April 25, 2000 ... Tonight's game is the fourth of a five-day, five-game homestand. The Rebels will conclude the homestand with a 6:30 p.m., game tomorrow night versus Mississippi Valley State ... Yesterday's win marked the first time this season Ole Miss has won a game when trailing after seven innings. The Rebels are now 1-7 this season when behind after seven ... The total three-game attendance for this past weekend's series with LSU was 11,138 ... Ole Miss is now averaging 2,237 fans per home game in 17 dates this season.
