LEXINGTON, Ky. - Adam Yates coaxed Brad Pickrell to ground into a fielder's choice to escape a bases loaded jam in the ninth as No. 15 Ole Miss held on for a 5-4 win over Kentucky in the nightcap and complete a sweep of a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Cliff Hagan Stadium. In the first game, the Rebels (20-7, 4-4 SEC) rallied from a 5-0 deficit to earn a 9-5 win.

Trailing 2-1 in the eighth, Burney Hutchinson hit a two-run home run to give the Rebels a 3-2 lead. The home run was his sixth of the year and his first hit in nine at bats during the twinbill. Hutchinson was 0-for-5 in the first game to snap his 12-game hitting streak.

The Rebels added another run in the eighth on Chad Sterbens' RBI single.

Kentucky (11-13, 2-6 SEC) answered with a run in the bottom of the eighth to pull within 4-3, but a base-running error cost them from tying the game. With runners on second and third and one out, Pickrell hit a bouncer to short, but pinch runner Mike Fritts was late breaking for home, allowing Sterbens to throw to the plate in time for catcher Barry Gunter to tag Fritts out. The base-running error would prove costly as Caleb Stewart then singled up the middle to score Spencer Graeter.

Ole Miss added a run in the ninth when Drew Rogers hit a lead-off double and pinch-runner Jon Reeder later scored on a throwing error by first baseman Robert Newton on a play at the plate.

In the bottom of the ninth, Yates walked Seth Morris to start the inning, and after Mike Ferris grounded to first, Hahn walked to put runners on first and second. Emory Davies followed with a single down the right field line to score Morris and advance Hahn to third. Yates struck out Brent Stephens for the second out, and after going 3-0 on Graeter, Yates intentionally walked Graeter to load the bases for Pickrell.

Pickrell grounded back to Yates, who underhand tossed it back to Gunter in time to tag Hahn out to end the game and secure the Rebels' fifth consecutive win.

Pete Montrenes (5-2) allowed three runs, two earned, on six hits and one walk, while striking out five over 7 1/3 innings to earn the win.

Yates was credited with his fourth save of the year.

Wildcat starter Scott Wade (3-5) suffered the loss, allowing three runs on nine hits and one walk, and fanned four in 7 1/3 innings.

Rogers went 4-for-4 at the plate as the Rebels out-hit the Wildcats 12-8.

In the first game, Josh Christian went 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs, and Seth Smith broke a 5-5 tie with an RBI single in the sixth to lead the Rebels to a 9-5 win in game one.

Kentucky scored five runs off Ole Miss starter J.R. Pickens in the first inning, highlighted by a three-run home run by Morris.

Christian got the Rebels on the board in the second with a lead-off home run, his third of the year. Matt Tolbert hit his first homer of the year with a solo shot in the fourth that pulled Ole Miss to within 5-3.

The Rebels tied the game with two runs in the fifth on Christian's RBI single and Rogers' ground out to second that scored Sterbens.

Pickens (5-1) overcame the shaky first inning to work seven innings and earn the win. He allowed five runs on nine hits and one walk, and struck out seven.

Kentucky starter Joseph Blanton (3-3) was charged with the loss. He allowed six runs on eight hits and four walks, and struck out eight.
