OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss women's tennis team, ranked No. 40 in the latest Omni Hotels Collegiate Rankings, will host a pair of top-ranked teams in Kentucky and Vanderbilt this weekend at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center.
The Lady Rebels (6-3) look to rebound from a disappointing 0-2 start in conference play last weekend. All three of Ole Miss' losses this year have come against top 25 teams including two in the top 10. It doesn't get any easier this weekend, with Kentucky holding a No. 11 ranking and Vanderbilt sitting at No. 2. Kentucky and Vanderbilt will make it five top 25 opponents in a row for the Lady Rebels.
Junior Mira Radu is ranked 13th in the latest singles rankings. She owns a team-leading 26-9 overall record and has won 10 of her last 13 matches. Radu is 7-2 at No. 1 singles with both losses coming to top 20 opponents. Senior Alesya Ignatieva broke into the rankings for the first time in her career, coming in at No. 69. She is 6-2 at No. 2 singles.
Kentucky comes into the weekend with a 9-3 overall record and still looking for their first SEC win. UK's three losses have all come at the hands of top 10 teams (Georgia, Duke and Tennessee). The Wildcats are led by 26th-ranked Carolina Mayorga and 41st-ranked Sarah Witten. Their No.1 doubles team of Mayorga and Witten is ranked No. 4 in the nation. Kentucky has only lost the doubles point once all year.
On Sunday, the Lady Rebels will face Vanderbilt, who owns a 15-2 overall record, 1-1 in the SEC. Both of their losses are to top-ranked Georgia. The Commodores' No. 2 ranking is the highest in school history. VU is led by ninth-ranked Sarah Riske and 38th-ranked Jenny Miller. The Commodore's No. 1 doubles team of Aleke Tsoubanos and Riske is ranked No. 8.
