Manning Named To Playboy 2002 Preseason All-America Team

OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss quarterback Eli Manning of New Orleans, La., has been selected to the 2002 Playboy preseason All-America football team, it was announced Wednesday by Playboy Sports Editor Gary Cole.
"It's an honor for Eli to be selected to such a prestigious preseason All-America team," said Ole Miss head coach David Cutcliffe. "His past play has certainly earned him that recognition. I'm sure Eli is anxious to go out and play at an even higher level during his upcoming junior season."
Manning set 16 school records and tied another in 2001, his first season as the starting quarterback at Ole Miss, as he finished in the top 25 nationally in 12 categories. He completed 259 of 408 passes for 2,948 yards and 31 touchdowns with only nine interceptions. He had six TD passes against Arkansas and engineered fourth-quarter, come-from-behind wins against Alabama, Vanderbilt, and SEC champ LSU.
With the selection of Manning, Ole Miss has now been represented > on the Playboy preseason All-America team for three straight > years. Running back Deuce McAllister was selected in 2000 and offensive > tackle Terrence Metcalf was on the 2001 team.
