Women's Tennis Shutouts Mississippi State 6-0

STARKVILLE, Miss. - The 35th-ranked Ole Miss women's tennis team needed just an hour and 45 minutes to post a 6-0 shutout over Mississippi State at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre Friday afternoon. With rain in the area, the match was delayed until 2:45, and the two teams elected to play the singles first.

With the win, the Lady Rebels conclude the regular season winning three in a row to improve to 11-9 overall and 4-7 in the SEC. Mississippi State drops to 5-15, 1-10 in the SEC.

Junior Mira Radu put the Lady Rebels on board first with an impressive win over senior Carole Soubis 6-2, 6-1 at the top spot, spoiling Senior Day for the Bulldogs. She is now 32-13 overall and 12-6 at No. 1 singles.

Senior Alesya Ignatieva gave Ole Miss a 2-0 lead when she downed Magdolna Rekasi 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. She improved to 20-9 overall and became the third Lady Rebel this season to reach 20 wins. Audra Adams won her third match in a row, dominating Yumi Ueda 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6 singles, and then Karem Harboe clinched the Lady Rebels' 13th straight victory in the series with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Camila Sagae at the No. 3 position. Harboe has won six SEC matches in a row.

Florencia Basile cruised to a 6-3, 6-2 victory against Justyna Switala at No. 5 singles to make it 5-0 and then Sabrina Peppl dominated a second set tiebreaker against Elaine Fagan at No. 4 singles to complete the sweep.

With the win, the Lady Rebels are now 61-4 against Western Division foes since 1990 including 26-0 versus LSU and Mississippi State.

Ole Miss will now get ready for the SEC Tournament April 18-21 in Columbia, S.C. The pairings will be announced Sunday evening or Monday morning.
