BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The fourth-ranked Ole Miss men's tennis team placed six members on the 2002 SEC Academic Honor Roll released Tuesday by SEC Commissioner Roy Cramer.

The University of Georgia topped the list with eight student-athletes on the academic roster. Ole Miss and Auburn were tied for second with six.

Mason Cousins, Alex Hartman and Kristofer Stahlberg made the team from this year's squad. Cousins holds a 3.16 in Banking and Finance, Hartman owns a 3.50 in International Business, and Stahlberg registers a 3.13 in International Studies.

Hartman is currently ranked No. 17 in the nation in singles and has helped lead the Rebels to the SEC Western Division title and a 17-4 overall record. He is making his second appearance on the team. A candidate for the Verizon Academic All-America team, Hartman earned a 4.0 GPA last fall.

Stahlberg, one of two seniors on this year's team, is ranked No. 52 in singles and No. 34 in doubles. This is Stahlberg's third year to be named to the All-SEC Academic team. He has been a huge factor in the Rebels' success this season leading the team to the No. 2 seed overall in the upcoming SEC Tournament.

Several members of last year's team made the honor roll including All-American James Shortall, who completed his outstanding career in 2001. Shortall graduated from the University of Mississippi in May of 2001 with a degree in Managerial Finance and is currently a touring professional. He becomes just the second player in the history of the program to earn the honor four years.

David Blackburn, who maintained a 4.0 in Accountancy, becomes the first Rebel to make the SEC Academic Honor Roll five years. Blackburn graduated from the University of Mississippi with a degree in Accounting. Jim Jacobs, who was also a member of the 2001 team, made the list with a 3.71 GPA in Managerial Finance.

Ole Miss opens up play in the SEC Tournament Friday against the winner of the #7 seed Kentucky/#10 seed Mississippi State match at 11 a.m. The Rebels were originally scheduled to play at 2 p.m., but the draw was changed late Monday.
