BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - ,Junior Alex Hartman and senior Kristofer Stahlberg of the Ole Miss men's tennis team, made the All-SEC second team as the 2002 men's tennis awards were announced Wednesday night at the SEC Tournament banquet in Knoxville, Tenn.
Hartman, who is ranked No. 25 in the latest national rankings, earned the honor for the third consecutive year. He becomes the third Rebel to earn All-SEC honors three years, joining former All-Americans Johan Hede and Sebastien DeChaunac. Hartman owns a 16-11 overall record, 10-9 at No. 1 singles.
A two-time honoree, Stahlberg is currently ranked No. 65 in the nation in singles and No. 37 in doubles. He registers a 13-8 record, 11-6 at No. 2 singles.
"I am extremely proud of Alex and Kristofer to repeat as All-SEC selections," head coach Billy Chadwick said. "It's a tremendous honor to be recognized among the best in a league that has proven to be the nation's finest. By making the All-SEC team and the SEC Academic Honor Roll, they exemplify the highest standard of a student-athlete."
Both have guided the Rebels (17-4, 8-3) to a top five ranking and the No. 2 seed in the SEC Tournament, which begins Thursday in Knoxville. The Rebels, SEC Western Division Champions, received a first-round bye and will face the winner of the Kentucky/Mississippi State match in the quarterfinals Friday at 11 a.m.
The Rebels have had a player named to the All-SEC team nine consecutive years and 10 of the last 11 years. The SEC is arguably the top conference in the nation with four teams ranked in the latest top 10 and nine in the top 25.
