Two Ole Miss Football Players Have Knee Surgery On Wednesday

OXFORD, Miss. - Two Ole Miss football players underwent surgery Wednesday to repair knee injuries suffered in the 2002 "Grove Bowl."
Ronald McClendon, a 5-9, 185-pound running back from Ponchatoula, La., had "scope" surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee. McClendon, a junior college transfer, injured his knee just before halftime in the Red-Blue game, but returned to action in the second half and went on to lead all rushers with 64 yards on 17 carries.
"Ronald's surgery went well," said Ole Miss head athletic trainer Tim Mullins. "We expect him to return to full activity in just a few weeks."
Bryant Thomas, a 6-11/2, 190-pound defensive back from Louisville, Miss., had surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. Thomas, a red-shirt freshman, recorded one tackle before getting injured in the spring game.
"Bryant's surgery also went well," said Mullins. "He will begin rehabilitation immediately and his status for the fall is unknown at this time."
Dr. Ed Field of Oxford performed both surgeries.
