REBEL GAME NOTES
AT A GLANCE: No. 9 Ole Miss (31-9, 11-6 SEC) and No. 2 Alabama (34-6, 13-4 SEC) will meet in the rubber-match of this weekend's three-game conference series today at 2 p.m., at Sewell-Thomas Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala. The Rebels won Friday's series opener 4-3, while the Crimson Tide rebounded for a 12-2 victory yesterday. Freshman right-hander Alan Horne (2-1, 5.27) is scheduled to make his eighth start of the year for the Rebels this afternoon, while Alabama is to counter with senior right-hander Shane Sanders (5-1, 3.86). Today's game can be heard on stations along the Ole Miss Radio Network beginning at 1:45 p.m,. with David Kellum and Gary Darby, and over the internet at www.OleMiss Sports.com.

LAST TIME OUT: Brent Boyd's grand slam off starter Pete Montrenes highlighted a seven-run first inning as the Crimson Tide rolled to a 12-2 win over the Rebels yesterday afternoon. Boyd finished the day 3x5 with two home runs and five RBIs, as he added a solo shot in the eighth to cap the game's scoring. Left-hander Jeffrey Norris pitched a complete game to earn the win, allowing two runs, one earned, on eight hits and one walk, while striking out two. Montrenes (8-3) was chased after 4.1 innings, allowing 10 runs on 10 hits and three walks. Josh Christian led the Rebels at the plate, going 2x4. Alabama out-hit Ole Miss on the day, 14-8.

IN THE POLLS: Ole Miss remained at No. 9 in this week's Collegiate Baseball Top 30, while moving to No. 12 in both the Baseball Weekly/ESPN Coaches and Baseball America Top 25 polls. The Rebels are up one spot from last week in the Baseball Weekly/ESPN rankings, and three places in the Baseball America poll. Ole Miss dropped three spots in this week's National Collegiate Baseball Writers' Association poll to No. 11 after being ranked No. 8 last week ... Alabama is ranked No. 2 in the Collegiate Baseball Top 30, and No. 4 by both Baseball Weekly and Baseball America.

OLE MISS ADDS HOME GAME: Ole Miss will host McNeese State on Tuesday, May 14 at 6:30 p.m., in a make-up game for the Rebels' March 12 game at Louisiana-Monroe being canceled due to inclement weather. Since the ULM game was not originally an Ole Miss home game, all season ticket holders will be admitted free at the gate upon presentation of a torn or unused ticket stub from any earlier played game this season. If you are a season ticket holder, and do not have any unused tickets or stubs, see the Swayze Field Ticket Office on game day for your admission pass. The season ticket holder will have the right to sit in the seats they purchased for the season. Tickets will also be available for purchase at the Ticket Office.

AFTER 40 GAMES LAST SEASON: The Rebels were 27-12-1 after 40 games last season ... Ole Miss was hitting .298 (410x1,374) with 70 doubles, 16 triples, 39 home runs and 239 RBIs ... The Rebels stole 33 bases in 47 attempts and grounded into 32 double plays ... They were outscoring their opponents 277-215 ... Rebel pitchers had a 4.40 ERA (352.0 IP, 172 ER), allowing 364 hits, including 30 home runs, walked 133 and had struck out 266 ... Ole Miss had committed 55 errors in 40 games.

REBELS VS. CRIMSON TIDE: This afternoon's meeting is the 298th all-time between the Ole Miss Rebels and Alabama Crimson Tide ... Alabama leads the series 173-122-2 ... Yesterday's 12-2 win by Alabama snapped Ole Miss' five-game win streak in the series, the Rebels' longest in the series since winning seven straight meetings against the Crimson Tide during the 1969 and 1970 seasons ... The two teams have split the last four series dating back to 1998, however, a win today would make Ole Miss the first road team to win a series since Alabama swept the Rebels in Oxford in 1997 ... A win would also mark the Rebels' first series win in Tuscaloosa since winning 2-of-3 in 1996, ironically on the weekend of April 19-21, and would give the Rebels' back-to-back series wins versus the Tide since winning five straight from 1992-96 ... The Rebels are 66-88-2 all-time against the Crimson Tide in Oxford, 53-80 in Tuscaloosa, and 3-5 at neutral sites.

REBEL NOTEBOOK:
* Ole Miss is 18-3 since being swept at Florida, March 15-17.
* Since the 1999 Alabama series, Ole Miss has won 13 of its last 14 SEC series when winning the opener. The only series loss during that span came at Mississippi State in 2000, when the Rebels took game one, 4-1, before losing the next two games, 10-4 and 12-3 ... Six of those 14 series involved a rubber-match.
* Ole Miss has played errorless defense in three of its last five games.
* The 14 hits by Alabama yesterday marked the first time Rebel pitchers have allowed 10 or more hits in back-to-back games since Feb. 24 against South Alabama and Feb. 27 at Southern Miss. The Crimson Tide rapped out 12 hits on Friday.
* The Rebels' 31-9 record marks the best 40-game mark in school history.
* A win today would give Ole Miss consecutive SEC road series wins for the first time since 1996 when the Rebels won consecutive road series at Alabama and at Mississippi State. Ole Miss swept three games from Kentucky in its last conference road series, March 30-31.
