NCAA Women's Tennis Singles Championships Suspended By Rain

PALO ALTO, Calif. - The opening day of the 2002 NCAA Women's Tennis Singles Championship was halted by rain on Monday at the Taube Tennis Center after only 42 minutes of competition. Play will resume on Tuesday morning at 9:00 a.m.

Nine of the 32 first round singles matches began at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time, but were halted by rain at 10:42 a.m. The competition was halted for the day at 1:56 p.m. after a 3-hour, 14-minute rain delay.

Ole Miss junior Mira Radu was one of the nine matches to get underway. She trailed Maja Mlakar of Arizona 6-1, 2-1 when play was halted for the day. Senior Alesya Ignatieva will face Marine Piriou of Northwestern at 10 a.m. PT Tuesday.
