OXFORD, Miss. - Katherine Jensen, a standout from West Vancouver, British Columbia, has signed a national letter of intent to join the Ole Miss volleyball program beginning in the 2002-03 academic year, Lady Rebel head coach Joe Getzin announced Tuesday.

Jensen hails from Sentinel Secondary School where she lettered in volleyball three years. The 6-1 outside hitter was named MVP at her school while hitting a .394 clip her senior year. She also played for the UBC team that finished third at the Canadian Senior Nationals.

While starting volleyball her sophomore year in high school, Jensen has been an athlete all her life, playing ice hockey and competing in gymnastics.

"We are very excited to get someone of Katherine's athletic ability and skill," Getzin said. "She is a dynamic athlete that has competed at a high level. Katherine comes from a great sports background with her experience in ice hockey and gymnastics. She has a bright future ahead of her here at Ole Miss. She is only going to get better."

Off the court, Jensen is an excellent student-athlete, being named to the Academic Honor Roll and receiving Spartan Citizenship honors.

Jensen becomes the third signee of the 2002-03 class joining Austin, Texas native Katie Griffin and Rachel Refenes of Menomonee Falls, Wisc.

The Lady Rebels open their first season under coach Getzin Aug. 30-31 at the University of Montana Tournament.
