BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Ole Miss had seven members of its softball team named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll Tuesday, as announced by the league office. The Rebels tied for the third-most selections in the conference.
The 2000-01 graduating class was represented by Jamie Cummings and Mackenzie Emel, each of whom earned their third selection. Cummings, an outfielder from Jackson, Miss., also earned Academic All-America third team distinction as a senior a year ago.
Juniors Lindsay Price of Terry, Miss., and Julie Baumann of Memphis, each garnered Academic All-SEC accolades for the second straight year. Price was also an Academic All-Region honoree in 2000-01 and boasts a 4.0 GPA in Biology.
Phyllis Manley, a junior from Southaven, Miss., received her first Honor Roll selection, as did Tina Sclafani and Amber Slaton, who were with the Rebels during the 2001 campaign.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must: 1) have a 3.0 grade point average for either the past year or for their career; 2) be a sophomore or higher in academic classification; and 3) have 24 semester hours countable toward a degree.
The 2002 SEC Academic Honor Roll is based on grades from the 2000-01 academic calendar. Kentucky led the league with nine players on the list.
