OXFORD, Miss. - A regional appearance on ABC Sports awaits the Ole Miss Rebels when they take on the Texas Tech Red Raiders Sept. 14 in Lubbock, it was announced this week by the Big 12 Conference. To accommodate television, kickoff has been moved from 7:00 to 2:30 p.m.

The game will be carried as part of ABC's regional package and will be shown in Texas as well as much of the southeast United States. For Ole Miss, it will be the first appearance on ABC since 1994 when the Rebels played Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Current Southeastern Conference television partners include CBS, ESPN/espn2, Jefferson Pilot, and Fox Sports Net South.

The game will feature two of the top quarterbacks in the nation, senior Kliff Kingsbury of Texas Tech and junior Eli Manning of Ole Miss. Kingsbury enters the 2002 season with 33 school records and eight Big 12 Conference records. Manning set or tied 17 school records last season, his first as a starter, and finished in the top 25 nationally in 12 categories.

This year's meeting between Ole Miss and Texas Tech will be the third in the series. Ole Miss holds a 2-0 advantage, having defeated the Red Raiders 20-17 in the 1986 Independence Bowl and 35-18 in the 1998 Independence Bowl, which was David Cutcliffe's first game as head coach of the Rebels. The second game of the current series is scheduled for Oxford Sept. 27, 2003.

It was earlier announced that ESPN will once again telecast the Thanksgiving night Ole Miss-Mississippi State "Egg Bowl" at 6:45. The Southeastern Conference has yet to announce its September TV lineup, but if past history is any indication, Ole Miss is expected to once again be well represented.
