OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss took a break from its two-a-day practice routine by holding just a single two-hour and 15-minute workout Tuesday morning under warm conditions.

The practice was the Rebels' second in full pads since holding its first full-contact practice on Monday.

"I thought it was really positive work again," said Ole Miss head coach David Cutcliffe. "There was a lot of physical work sprinkled throughout the practice, which is what we need. I saw some things that I lliked. I thought our pad leverage was better on both sides of the ball. I'm sure we'll see a number of things we need to correct when we watch the practice tape. This was the second round of full-contact hitting, and we got a lot of it in during today's practice."

After working on individual skills and offensive and defensive schemes, the Rebels worked on goal-line situations near the end of practice. The session was highlighted by senior linebacker Eddie Strong's tackle to stop a run up the middle.

"I thought our goal-line work was good," Cutcliffe said. "Obviously, the collisions are close and fast. It was good work to end practice on. I thought the backs ran hard, and I know Eddie Strong had a real big hit on the goal line, which is what you want to see."

Cutcliffe also noted the close competition at running back spots, saying that no one has yet to establish themselves in the starting role.

"I don't think anybody has separated themselves," Cutcliffe said. "A lot of it is going to be who is tough enough to make it through the week. Like I told them, I'm anxious to get into a scrimmage situation to see who is going to take care of the football, because it's real close. The edge is going to go to the guy who takes care of the football down after down."

In place of practice Tuesday evening, the Ole Miss players went through weight workouts and team and position meetings.

The Rebels will return to their two-a-day practice schedule on Wednesday.

Meet the Rebels Day, presented by Belk Ford/Oxford Toyota and Unicell, is set for Saturday afternoon from 1:00 to 3:00 in The Grove. Ole Miss players and coaches will be available for autographs during that time.
