Lady Rebels Open Play At UCF Classic Against Charleston Southern

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Ole Miss women's volleyball team will compete in the UCF Classic this weekend in Orlando, Fla. The tournament is the third and final tournament in a season opening swing that took the Rebels (2-4) to Montana and Baylor to open the season.

The UCF Classic will pit the Rebels against Charleston Southern, Central Florida and also features a rematch with Montana, a team that defeated Ole Miss 3-1 in the title match of its own tournament to open the year.

The Rebels attack is led by four players who are boasting more than 40 kills on the season. Freshman Rachel Refenes is tops on the team with 56 kills on the season and a .262 hitting average. Junior Karla Zschau has notched 52 kills, while senior Erin Newsom sophomore Elena Garcia have 49 and 43 kills respectively.

Junior Jade Polonich is leading the team in assists with 175 on the season. With her 29 assists against UALR in the final match of the Baylor Classic this past weekend, Polonich broke the 1,000 mark for assists. The Calgary, Alberta, native has 1,005 assists for her career. Freshman Katie Griffin has recorded 35 assists and notched her first career start against UALR over the weekend.

Leading the team in digs are three Lady Rebels, as Zschau, Garcia and Polonich all have more than 40 digs a piece on the season.

The Rebels will open play with Charleston Southern (3-5) on Friday at noon. Ole Miss will return to action on Saturday, facing Montana (4-3) at 10:00 a.m. and then concluding the tournament with host team Central Florida (2-5) at 7 p.m.
