Harboe and Basile Claim Doubles Title At UNLV Invitational

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The Ole Miss team of Florencia Basile and Karem Harboe won the doubles title at the UNLV Invitational Saturday. The invitational is Ole Miss' first competition of the fall season.
Basile and Harboe posted an 8-6 win over UNLV's Gyorgyi Zsiros and Leantjie Oosthuizen to take the doubles crown.
Senior Mira Radu, ranked No. 17 in the nation, won two matches Saturday to advance to Sunday's championship in the Flight 1 singles. Radu defeated UNLV's Tracie Chong, 6-4, 6-4 in third-round action, and then won a 6-0, 6-4 decision over Northern Arizona's Kirsten Balk in the semifinals en route to the title match. Radu will meet UNLV's Pauline Janus in Sunday's championship match. Janus won a hard-fought 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 third-round match over Ole Miss freshman Virginia Tomatis.
In Flight 1 singles consolation, Harboe fell to Oklahoma State's Linda Faltynkova, 6-0, 1-0, retiring in the second set. Junior Sabrina Peppl bounced back after Friday's setback for a 6-2, 7-6 win over Oklahoma State's Katia Kolodynska in Flight 2 consolation singles.
The doubles team of Radu and Tomatis, ranked No. 44 in the nation, dropped an 8-6 decision to Oklahoma State's Linda Faltynkova and Katia Kolodynska in the consolation bracket.
