Ole Miss Takes First Place in Rebel Softball Fall Classic

OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss recorded a perfect 6-0 mark to take first place in the Rebel Softball Fall Classic last weekend. The Rebels knocked off West Alabama, 7-3, Delta State, 2-0, and Jackson State, 10-0, Sunday to secure the crown in the fifth annual event.
Lindsay Price handled the pitching and hitting against West Alabama. The senior from Terry, Miss., totaled eight strikeouts with one earned run in the complete-game effort on the mound, while also batting 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI at the plate.
Freshman Rebecca McIntire drove in a pair of runs and picked up two hits, as did Brooke Turner and Jordan Chitwood.
Leslie Day maintained the Rebels' pitching dominance against Delta State. Day, a senior righthander, tossed a complete-game no-hitter in the 2-0 victory, collecting nine strikeouts. Turner, who finished with a tourney-best nine hits over the weekend, doubled in both UM runs.
In the late game, Ole Miss jumped all over Jackson State for six runs in the first frame en route to the five-inning mercy-rule win. Megan Kozar's single plated two scores to key the early rally. Freshman Stacy McCommon and sophomore DeDe Justice each compiled three hits with two and three RBI, respectively. Turner, Chitwood, Andrea Brahs and Desiree Layman each chipped in with a pair of basenocks as part of the Rebels' 17-hit barrage.
Dana Brill, a freshman from Houston, Texas, hurled her second shutout of the tournament with only two Tigers hits surrendered.
With 10-1 triumphs over both West Alabama and JSU Sunday, Delta State closed out in second in the tournament standings with a 2-1 mark. Christian Brothers, who pulled out a 1-0 win over the Blues Sunday, and MUW tied for third at 1-2, followed West Alabama at 1-3 and Jackson State at 1-4.
