Jose' Garcia Joins Ole Miss Softball Staff

OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss softball team adds head coaching experience to its staff with the hiring of new Rebel assistant coach Jose' Garcia, who spent five years directing the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs program.
"I'm very excited to have Jose' here at Ole Miss," said Rebel head coach Candi Letts, who enters her fifth season heading the program. "Jose brings a wealth of knowledge on the sport, and has experienced success at every level. He is an excellent recruiter and a tremendous addition to our staff."
As an assistant and head coach at Colorado Springs, Garcia was with the Gold from 1993-1999, and saw the squad capture the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference crown in 1994 and finish top five in the nation in batting average in 1999.
Following his stint at Division II Colorado Springs, Garcia served as an assistant coach at Creighton, and helped the Jays to the 2000 Missouri Valley Conference Championship and post a 35-22 record.
Garcia has also had success at the prep level, guiding the Mitchell High School softball team to three league and district titles in four years as head coach. He was named the 1991 Colorado Springs Gazette All-Area Coach of the Year.
A native of Colorado Springs, Garcia earned his BA in Communications from Nebraska-Omaha in 2001, and is currently pursuing a masters in Sports Management/Coaching from the United States Sports Academy through correspondence.
"I am absolutely thrilled to be joining this Ole Miss staff," said Garcia, who will be working with the UM infielders as well as have hitting duties. "This is a program committed to winning, and hopefully I can help this team reach an even higher level of success. I've experienced nothing but professionalism since my arrival, and I can't imagine a better place to be."
Coming off their finest season in the program's six-year history, Ole Miss hosts the fifth annual Rebel Softball Fall Classic, Sept. 28-29 at Ole Miss Softball Complex.
