OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss women's tennis team, who stayed at No. 36 in the national rankings this week, will host the University of Memphis Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center. Incase of inclement weather, the match will be played at the Gillom Sports Center.
The Lady Rebels (1-2) will be looking to even their record when they host the Lady Tigers. After downing Jacksonville State 7-0 to open the season, Ole Miss went on the road to face two of the top teams in the nation. They dropped a 7-0 decision to No. 16 William & Mary and then lost 6-1 to No. 6 Arizona State.
"We learned a lot from playing two of the top teams in the country last weekend," head coach Mark Beyers said. "We are excited to be back at home, and I expect us to play much better than we did against our last two opponents. It is supposed to be warmer on Sunday, and we want to encourage all fans to come out to the tennis center and support the team."
Memphis will kick off its season Friday at Mississippi State. The Lady Tigers are led by seniors Sabrina Lindemann and Monica Gonzalez-Gordo, who are ranked No. 56 in the preseason Omni Hotels Collegiate Doubles Rankings.
Lindemann and Gonzalez-Gordo, who finished the fall season with a 9-2 doubles record, are the first Lady Tigers in school history to receive a national ranking from the collegiate tennis governing body. Both were named all-conference last season with Gonzalez-Gordo earning third team honors while Lindemann earned second team honors.
