OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss head football coach David Cutcliffe announced Thursday that senior running back Ronald McClendon will not participate in Saturday's game with South Carolina.
"After receiving information earlier this week which indicated a potential rules violation, as a precautionary measure, we are withholding Ronald from further competition until the matter can be resolved," Cutcliffe said.
"With Vashon Pearson's status uncertain, Brandon Jacobs will be backing up Tremaine Turner, plus Marvin Vaughan will be available if needed," Cutcliffe said. "Chris Collins, Mike Espy, B. Brown, and Taye Biddle will handle kickoff return duties.
"This is an untimely situation, but we will move forward as normal in preparations for South Carolina," Cutcliffe said.
Kickoff in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium is set for Saturday morning at 11:33. For Ole Miss (6-2 overall, 4-0 SEC), Saturday's game is the final of four straight home contests for the Rebels.
