The Ole Miss volleyball team will host LSU and Arkansas this weekend at the Gillom Sports Center as part of the second annual Lady Rebel Alumni Weekend. Friday's 7 p.m. match against LSU is being sponsored by Bofield's. The first 50 fans that come to the match will receive a free chicken platter.
Ole Miss (2-15, 1-3) returns home after playing six of its last seven matches on the road. The Lady Rebels dropped a 3-0 decision at South Carolina last Friday and then lost a tough 3-1 match to Kentucky on Sunday. The team trailed Kentucky 2-1 in the match and rallied to take the lead in game four, before the Wildcats answered and closed out the game for the win.
Junior outside hitter Elena Garcia notched her 700th kill and dig over the weekend. She currently ranks among the league leaders in kills and digs, averaging 3.50 per game in both categories. Garcia needs 10 kills and 11 digs to notch 200 in each category for the season. It will mark the third in a row for her to reach 200 kills and digs.
LSU enters the weekend with a 7-10 overall record, 2-3 in the SEC. They are coming off a split last weekend, picking up a 3-2 win over Auburn and falling to Alabama 3-0. The Tigers are led by junior outside hitter Regan Hood, with 291 kills (4.62 per game). She ranks fourth in conference matches only with 4.50 kpg. Junior libero Rachel Pittman leads the team in digs with 164 (2.60 per game).
On Sunday, the Lady Rebels will face an Arkansas team, that after beginning the season 1-3, has won 11 of its last 12 for a 12-4 overall record. The Lady Razorbacks are coming off consecutive 3-1 wins over Alabama and Auburn last weekend to improve to 5-0 in the conference. Senior middle blocker Sara Kincaid leads Arkansas with 292 kills and also owns a team-leading 86 blocks per game. She ranks among the conference leaders in kills at 4.49 per game and in blocks with 1.32 per game.
This weekend the past meets the present, as the Lady Rebels are excited to welcome back several former players for the second annual Alumni Weekend. Approximately 30 former players are returning to the Gillom Sports Center for a huge SEC weekend. The list of returning alumni includes All-SEC honorees Julia Sitarz, Genevieve "V" Shy, Susan Argue and Kira Zschau.
