Volleyball To Take On Arch-Rival Mississippi State

The Ole Miss volleyball team will try to keep its SEC Tournament hopes alive when they travel to Starkville, Miss., Wednesday to face arch-rival Mississippi State at 7 p.m., at the Newell-Grissom Building.
Ole Miss (6-23, 4-10) downed Auburn 3-1 Sunday to match last season's conference win total. The Lady Rebels are paced by junior outside hitter Elena Garcia, who recorded her 300th dig of the season this past weekend and now has over 300 in both kills and digs for the season. She needs 24 kills to reach 900 for her career.
Sophomore Rachel Refenes tied her career-high with 19 kills against Auburn and turned in the third best hitting percentage (.692) in a single season match with 20-29 attempts. She had 26 attempts and only one error.
Freshman setter Jennifer McGowan notched her 1,000th assist for the season in the Auburn match. With 41 assists against Mississippi State, McGowan will crack Ole Miss' top 10 single season list, becoming only the third player to do so in her freshman season.
Mississippi State (3-21, 2-12) split a pair of matches last weekend, rallying to defeat Auburn in five games and falling to Alabama 3-0 on Sunday. The Bulldogs defeated LSU 3-1 for their only other conference win.
Sophomore outside hitter Rachel Cooper leads the Bulldogs with 289 kills and ranks second on the club with 246 digs. The team defensive leader is senior libero Tanika Taylor, who ranks second in the conference in digs per game at 3.34. She is three digs way from hitting the 300 mark in digs for the year.
Ole Miss leads the all-time series with State 51-9. The Lady Rebels have won four in a row, including this year's 3-2 win in Oxford. Ole Miss defeated MSU 3-1 in Starkville last year.
