OXFORD, Miss. - Mimi Renaudin of Mandeville, La., and Carlin Cochran of Dublin, Ga., have signed national letters of intent to join the Ole Miss women's tennis program beginning with the 2004-05 academic year head coach Mark Beyers announced Friday. Renaudin and Cochran are the Rebels' first signees of the early signing period which began Wednesday.
"We are extremely excited to get two players of this caliber to play for us next year," Beyers said. "Both have been very good junior players, but they have not even come close to reaching their potential. We feel that with the right coaching and getting to play against the level of competition they will see in the SEC there potential is unlimited.
"Mimi and Carlin are not only great tennis players, but excellent students. It's an exciting day for Ole Miss women's tennis."
Renaudin will graduate from Seton Home School (Front Royal, Va.) in December. She played tennis her freshman year (2000) at St. Scholastic Academy in Covington, La., and captured the Louisiana State Championship as well as MVP honors. During 2001, Renaudin was ranked No. 1 in the South. Off the court, Renaudin was named to the Who's Who in America for High School Students and is a member of the National Honor Society. Her father, Rusty, played basketball at Georgetown University.
Cochran is an outstanding talent from Dublin High School, where she remains undefeated in tennis. She reached the third round at the National Clay Court Championships this year. She has been a member of the honor roll at Dublin her entire career. Cochran's mother, Tina, played basketball and tennis at the University of Georgia, and her sister, Tanner, is currently playing tennis on the women's professional tour.
Ole Miss just completed the fall season and will open the spring season Jan. 24 against Troy State.
