Rebels Drop First Conference Match Against Army

CINCINATTI, Ohio - The Ole Miss rifle doubled up recently, shooting a 4519 in smallbore and a 1511 in air rifle in a competition that served as a dual match against conference foe Army, while also serving as the scoring performance for the Walsh Invitational.
The Rebels dropped the meet with Army, who fired a 4583 in smallbore and a 1540 in air rifle. Ole Miss will await the final results from the Walsh Invitational, which will be released in December once all teams have completed shooting.
Freshman Jennifer Lorenzen led the way for Ole Miss in smallbore, firing a new personal best with an 1155 while recording a 377 in air rifle. Megan Sandage backed up Lorenzen, firing an 1133 in smallbore and recording a 382 in air rifle.
Freshman Mara Polonsky paced the squad in air rifle, turning in a score of 384. Polonsky fired an 1145 in smallbore while competing as an individual.
Laura Gavin recorded an 1131 in smallbore to go along with a 368 in air rifle, while Samantha Leach fired an 1100 in smallbore to round out the scoring for Ole Miss. Leach recorded a 387 in air rifle as an individual.
Competing as individuals in the event were Shanda Duval, Jessica McClain and Natasha Phillips. Duval notched scores of 1153 in smallbore and 372 in air rifle. McClain fired a 1018 in smallbore and a 346 in air rifle, while Phillips turned in a 336 in air rifle.
The competition marked the final one of the fall for the Rebels, who will return to action at the Tennessee-Martin Invitational on January 30, 2004.
