MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Sophomore Megan Sandage posted a season-best smallbore score of 1,134 and freshman Jennifer Lorenzen recorded a season-high air rifle count of 387, but it wasn't enough as the Ole Miss rifle team dropped a 6,097-6,030 decision to the University of Memphis Sunday afternoon.
Sandage led the way in smallbore as the Rebels fired a 4,498. Sophomore Laura Gavin added an 1,124, while Lorenzen posted an 1,123 and sophomore Samantha Leach turned in an 1,117.
Lorenzen paced the squad in air rifle as Ole Miss shot a 1,532. Sandage added a 386, while Leach recorded a 380 and freshman Mara Polonsky turned in a 379.
"We received some solid individual contributions, but we couldn't piece it all together," Ole Miss head coach Valerie Boothe said. "This is a very young team, but we can't use that as an excuse. We need to work on having more consistency throughout the line-up so we can be more competitive from a team standpoint.
"I was really pleased with our air rifle score. Our air rifle team performed well, but our smallbore team gave us a little trouble. We need to improve in that area before our competition this weekend."
Ole Miss returns to action Sunday when it travels to Murray, Ky., for the NCAA Sectionals.
