BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Armintie Price was named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 24-30, the league office announced Monday. Price is the 10th Lady Rebel to receive the conference's weekly award and the first since Becky Myatt did so on Nov. 20, 2000 (2000-2001 season).
"Armintie Price has been tremendous for us," said Ole Miss head coach Carol Ross. "She rolled into Oxford ready to play and has been ready ever since. She plays with tremendous effort, she lays it out every game and plays with a lot of passion.
"She is very deserving of the SEC Player of the Week honor. If she continues to play the way she has been, a lot of awards will come her way. As the players say, she is a 'baller'."
Last week the 5-9 forward led Ole Miss to wins over Belmont (78-62) and Nebraska (69-66) and a close loss to Memphis (69-63) in the championship game of the Lady Tiger Classic. Price, a freshman from Blue Mountain, Miss., averaged 20.3 points and 14.7 rebounds per game, while shooting 51.3 (20-of-39) percent from the field and 75.0 (21-of-28) from the free throw line.
In the win over Belmont, Price led Ole Miss with 21 points and 13 rebounds. Price had only six points and six rebounds at the half, but came on strong in the second half to finish the game with her first career-double-double.
She followed her performance at Belmont with two more double-doubles en route to earning All-Tournament team honors at the Lady Tiger Classic. Price notched 18 points and a career-high 16 rebounds against Nebraska in the first round game. She then posted a career-high 22 points against Memphis, while also grabbing 15 rebounds against the Lady Tigers. Price connected on 10-of-10 foul shots in the championship game.
"I am very greatful for this honor," said Price. "However, I could not do it without my teammates. We all work together out there, so I consider this a team award."
Price leads the Lady Rebels in scoring (16.8) and rebounding (11.3) on the season. She has also posted 12 assists and 10 steals, while averaging 27.7 minutes per game. Price is shooting 55.0 percent from the field and 71.4 percent from the foul line. She is the SEC leader in rebounding and ranks 10th in scoring in the conference.
"I just go out on the court and play because I hate losing," said Price. "I will do anything I can whether it be grabbing a rebound or skinning up my knees. I will do whatever it takes because I want to win."
The Lady Rebels defeated McNeese State, 85-72, on Monday, with Price posting her fourth double-double of the season with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Ole Miss will return to action on Friday, Dec. 6, when they travel to Chattanooga. Game time is set for 6 p.m. (CT) at The McKenzie Arena.
