OXFORD, Miss. - Fans who were able to purchase tickets to the January 2 SBC Cotton Bowl through the Ole Miss Athletics Ticket Office should receive those tickets in the next few days.
"We mailed approximately 17,700 Cotton Bowl tickets today (Monday)," said Ole Miss Assistant Athletics Director for Ticket Operations Sans Russell. "Our original allotment was for 17,000 tickets, but we were able to secure an additional 700," Russell said, noting that his office received orders for over 22,000 tickets.
The 68th annual SBC Cotton Bowl Classic will feature Coach David Cutcliffe's Rebels and Coach Les Miles' Oklahoma State Cowboys. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. in the 68,252 seat Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas, and will be shown on the FOX Television Network. The 2004 SBC Cotton Bowl Classic is already listed as a sellout.
It will be the first-ever football meeting between Ole Miss and Oklahoma State, who will both enter the contest nationally ranked.
Ole Miss (9-3, 7-1 SEC) is ranked No. 16 by The Associated Press and No. 18 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Top 25. Oklahoma State (9-3, 5-3 Big XII) is No. 21 by The AP and No. 22 by ESPN/USA Today.
"We had to stop taking orders," Russell said. "Had the tickets been available, I really believe we could have sold over 25,000."
The 2004 SBC Cotton Bowl Classic marks Ole Miss' 31st all-time bowl appearance and its fifth bowl appearance in the last six seasons. It will be the third trip to the Cotton Bowl for Ole Miss, which defeated TCU 14-13 in the 1956 game and fell 12-7 to Texas in 1962. Both Cotton Bowl appearances came under legendary head coach John Vaught, who posted a 10-8 record in bowl games with Ole Miss.
