OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss women's tennis team, playing its first outdoor match of the 2003 season, got off to a slow start in doubles, but turned it up a notch in singles to post a dominating 7-0 win over the University of Memphis Sunday afternoon at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center.

With the win, the Lady Rebels (2-2) snapped a two-match losing streak and improved to 2-0 at home. Memphis fell to 0-2 after consecutive losses to Mississippi State and Ole Miss this weekend.

"It's hard when you've been playing indoors for awhile," head coach Mark Beyers said. "This was only our second day outdoors, so I am proud of the effort. This was a good win for us. We got off to a rusty start in doubles, but we played much better in singles. We will get better each time we play outside."

The doubles were tight on all three courts. Ole Miss won 8-6 at all three positions, including No.1 where, Mira Radu and Virginia Tomatis defeated the 56th-ranked team of Sarah Lindemann and Monica Gonzalez-Gordo.

While the temperature began to fall at the start of singles, the Lady Rebels turned up the heat on the courts, needing barely two hours to finish off the Lady Tigers. Karem Harboe downed Sumitra Rao 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles to make it 2-0. Moments later, Radu, ranked No. 8 in the nation, finished off Lindemann 6-0, 6-2 at the top spot to give Ole Miss a 3-0 advantage.

Tomatis cruised to a 6-3, 6-2 win over Viktoria Gruber at the No. 4 spot to clinch the match for the Lady Rebels. She has now won three of her first four dual matches. Sabrina Peppl defeated Andrea Feichtinger 6-1, 6-4 on court six, Florencia Basile downed Gonzalez-Gordo 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and then Audra Adams completed the sweep with her 6-3, 6-2 win against Marlene Dirnstorfer.

The Lady Rebels return to the courts Saturday, Feb. 8 as they host Tulane at 11 a.m. The match will be played at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center weather permitting.
