OXFORD, Miss. - After a solid performance on the course at in the first tournament of the spring that saw two golfers finish below par, Ole Miss takes to the road again hoping to build off that performance at the Beau Chene Collegiate Classic February 24-25, in Mandeville, La.

The tournament is being played on the Oak Course at the Beau Chene Country Club, a par-72, 6,275-yard course.

The Rebels have experienced some success at the Beau Chene Collegiate Classic, formerly known as the SLU/Mardi Gras Invitational, claiming the overall title in 1998. Former Rebel golfer Lane Pippen claimed medalist honors in the 1998 tournament as well to lead Ole Miss.

"We have had good experiences in our earlier trips to play at this tournament and we're hoping that continues," said head coach Woody Cowart. "The guys really played well in a tough field out in Hawaii. Hopefully everyone will be on the same page and we can capitalize on that solid performance."

Ole Miss got some success in the first tournament of the season from its newcomers and underclassmen as freshman Jonathan Lenz and junior transfer Lucas Boyd paced the team. Both players fired a two-under-par score of 214 for the tournament, tying for the No. 26 spot overall in the standings.

Sophomore Jarrod Gardner played his most complete tournament, hitting par the first day and finishing two-over-par for the event with a score of 72-73-73-218 to finish right behind his two teammates.

"I was really impressed with the play of the three younger members of the squad," Cowart said. "It's tough anytime a freshman is leading, but Jonathan Lenz did a good job of handling the pressure. Lucas Boyd isn't a young player, but he is new to the program and it was nice to see him turn in the type of rounds he is capable of playing.

"Jarrod Gardner has been getting better and better each time out on the course and he came up big for us playing some of the best golf he has played in his short career here," Cowart said.

The tournament will feature three rounds, with 36 holes played on Monday and the concluding 18 holes to be played on Tuesday. Results from the tournament will be posted at www.OleMissSports.com as soon as they are made available.
