OXFORD, Miss. - The 40th-ranked Ole Miss women's tennis team snapped a three-match losing streak by defeating 58th-ranked Kansas State 5-2 Saturday afternoon at the Gillom Sports Center.

With the win, the Lady Rebels improved to 3-5 overall as they get set to begin conference play, while Kansas State dropped to 4-1. Ole Miss has now won three straight against Kansas State and has won the last two by the identical score of 5-2.

"After losing three in a row, we needed a win," head coach Mark Beyers said. We played a good Kansas State team. We saw some things that we still need to work on, but at least we go into conference play with a win. That is the most important thing heading into Gainesville and Columbia next weekend."

Ole Miss won the doubles to take the opening point. Ole Miss' Karem Harboe and Florencia Basile dominated Alveeli Alkhatib and Maria Rosenberg 8-0 at No. 3 doubles, and then Mira Radu and Virginia Tomatis finished off Kansas State's No. 1 team of Petra Sedlmajerova and Paulina Castillejos 8-3 to clinch the point.

Radu made it 2-0 Lady Rebels with an impressive 6-3, 6-0 win over Sedlmajerova at No. 1 singles. With the win, Radu, ranked No. 8 in singles, snapped a three-match losing streak and claimed her 95th career victory.

Kansas State tied the match with wins at Nos. 2 and 3 singles. Ole Miss' Basile dropped a 6-1, 6-4 decision to K-State's Rosenberg on court two, and then Harboe fell in straight sets to Jessica Simosa 7-5, 6-3 on court three.

Sabrina Peppl gave Ole Miss a 3-2 lead when she defeated Hayley McIver 6-4, 6-1 at No. 5 singles. Peppl trailed 3-4 in the first set, but won three straight games to take the set and carried the momentum into the second set. She has won four of her last five.
