The Ole Miss women's tennis team takes a break from conference action this weekend to host Baylor University Saturday at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center. The match is slated for a Noon start.
"Baylor has a good team, and they have had some close losses to higher ranked teams just like we have," head coach Mark Beyers said. "We expect it to be an exciting match and would like to encourage all fans to come out and make it a full weekend of tennis by supporting the Lady Rebels."
The Lady Rebels come into the match at 4-10 overall. They are coming off a weekend split in which they came back to defeat Auburn 4-3 last Friday and lost to Alabama 5-2 on Sunday. Senior Mira Radu, who clinched the win over Auburn, defeated Alabama's Millie Begovic to win her 99th career match. She will attempt to become the fourth Lady Rebel to record 100 wins in her career Saturday.
Baylor, a member of the Big 12 Conference, enters the match with a 6-8 overall record. They are coming off a 4-3 loss to Texas on Wednesday night. The Lady Bears have played six matches that have come down to the wire, including a narrow 4-3 loss to No. 25 Illinois last Sunday. The Lady Bears are led by senior Vida Mulec, who is ranked No. 107 in singles. Their No. 4 player Daria Potapova comes in as the hottest player on the team, as she has won 11 of her last 12 matches.
Ole Miss and Baylor have met once on the tennis courts. The Lady Rebels defeated the Lady Bears 9-0 under the old format back in 1991.
