OXFORD, Miss. - As Ole Miss nears the end of spring football drills, head coach David Cutcliffe believes Saturday's scrimmage may well turn out to be most important contact session of the spring.

"We're looking at a lot of young people in an effort to find out who we can count on next fall," Cutcliffe said. "You don't have much time in the fall to evaluate, so Saturday's scrimmage is the biggest we'll have all spring."

Although Friday was a non-tackling practice for the Rebels, Cutcliffe felt a lot was accomplished during the two-hour practice. "We got in a lot of position work in anticipation of Saturday's scrimmage," he said.

Spring football at Ole Miss was set to conclude with the annual Red-Blue Game on Saturday, March 29, but the Rebels may be forced to get in at least one practice after the "Grove Bowl." Ole Miss had planned to begin spring practice on February 21, but heavy rain in the Oxford area and wet field conditions forced a one week delay. Make-up dates are always built into the spring football schedule and Cutcliffe said the Rebels may use one of them on Sunday.
