No. 7 Tennessee Hands Women's Tennis 6-1 Loss

OXFORD, Miss. - The 42nd-ranked Ole Miss women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to No. 7 Tennessee Sunday afternoon at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center. With the loss, the Lady Rebels fell to 5-12 overall and 1-7 in the SEC, while UT improved to 16-4 and 7-1 in league play.
Tennessee came out strong in doubles to open the match 1-0. They swept all three matches 8-2, 8-0 and 8-2. The Lady Rebels are 1-9 when they lose the doubles point. Tennessee came into the match 15-2 when claiming the opening point.
In singles, UT's Crystal Cleveland defeated Lady Rebel freshman Virginia Tomatis 6-1, 6-4 at the No. 3 position to make it 2-0. Junior Karem Harboe downed Lady Vol Tammy Encina 6-0, 6-3 on court two to get the Lady Rebels within 2-1. But, that would be it for the day.
Tennessee won the remaining matches in straight sets for their ninth win in 10 matches. The Lady Rebels have lost seven of their last nine. Of their 12 losses, 10 have come against top 25 opponents with five versus top 10 foes.
Ole Miss will try to win its second conference match of the season Friday, when they take on winless Arkansas in Fayetteville. Following that match, the Lady Rebels will travel to Baton Rouge on Sunday to face LSU.
