OXFORD, Miss. - The 47th-ranked Ole Miss women's tennis team downed Mississippi State 6-1 on Senior Day Friday afternoon at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center to win their 14th straight over the Lady Bulldogs. With the win, the Lady Rebels improved 7-13 overall and 3-8 in the SEC, while MSU dropped to 7-13 and 1-10 in conference. The Lady Rebels will be the No. 9 seed in the upcoming SEC Tournament and will face the No. 8 seed, LSU, in the first round Thursday.

Ole Miss jumped out to a 1-0 lead by winning the doubles point. Karem Harboe and Florencia Basile cruised to a 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles over State's Marcelle Hirt and Justyna Switala. MSU claimed the No. 2 spot 8-3. Mira Radu and Virginia Tomatis defeated Lady Bulldogs' Elaine Fagan and Yumi Ueda 8-5 at the top spot to clinch the point.

Junior Audra Adams finished off State's Patricia Assumpcao 6-0, 6-4 on court six and then Tomatis completed her stellar performance against Ueda 6-3, 6-0, on court five to give Ole Miss a 3-0 lead.

Senior Mira Radu has enjoyed an outstanding career at Ole Miss, becoming the fourth Lady Rebel to win 100 career matches. Radu wanted to leave a winner, and she made sure that happened with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Magdi Rekasi at No. 1 singles to clinch the victory.

"We are excited to finish the SEC regular season with a 6-1 win over our arch-rival," head coach Mark Beyers said. "It was great for Mira to clinch the win in her last match here. We did a good job in doubles and then earned a couple quick points in singles to go up 3-0. This gives us some momentum heading into the SEC Tournament. We are looking forward to getting revenge against LSU."

Lady Bulldog Anastasia Kugakulova won a third-set supertiebreaker against Harboe for State's only point. Kugakulova won the first set 6-3, but Harboe would rally to claim the second 6-4. Down 2-7 in the breaker, Harboe rallied before falling 10-7.

Basile came back to beat Mircelle Hirt at No. 3 singles, and Peppl rallied to top MSU's Fagan in three sets on court four to make it 6-1.

The SEC Tournament takes place April 17-20 at the UT Varsity Courts in Knoxville, Tenn. The bracket will be released Sunday evening at the conclusion of regular season play.
