OXFORD, Miss. - After allowing a season-high 19 hits to Southeastern Louisiana on Tuesday, Ole Miss turned the tables on the Lions by pounding out 21 hits in a 16-6 romp Wednesday evening, in front of 1,576 at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field.
The win improved Ole Miss to 22-15 and snapped a three-game losing skid, while Southeastern dropped to 10-23.
Shortstop Shawn Yarbrough went 4-for-5 with three RBIs to pace the Rebel attack. Freshman first baseman Stephen Head went 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs and finished a double shy of the cycle. Brian Pettway, Seth Smith and Chad Sterbens also recorded three hits each.
Junior right-hander Jeremy Zick (3-3) recorded the win in his first career start, allowing three runs, two earned, on two hits and two walks in five innings of work.
Brent Rowell (0-1) was charged with the loss, allowing seven runs on seven hits and a walk in three innings.
Ole Miss scored four runs in the first and three in the third to jump out to a 7-0 lead.
The Rebels then broke the game open with a five-run fourth, highlighted by Head's two-run home run, to build a 12-1 lead. The home run was Head's fourth of the year.
Robert Larsen went 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs to lead the Lions at the plate.
Ole Miss will next open a three-game Southeastern Conference series Friday evening against Alabama. Game time is 6:30 p.m., at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field.
