BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Mira Radu, a senior on the Ole Miss women's tennis team, was named to the 2003 All-SEC second team as the conference postseason awards were announced Wednesday night at the SEC Tournament banquet in Knoxville, Tenn.
Radu, an All-American, made the All-SEC team for the second year in a row. She is ranked No. 21 in the nation with a 19-10 overall record. Radu recorded an 8-3 mark in the SEC, which is regarded as the best conference in the nation. Heading into the tournament, Radu has won seven of her last eight matches including a win over the nation's No. 1 player. This season she became only the fourth Lady Rebel ever to win 100 career matches and stands at 104.
"This is a well-deserved honor for Mira, to be recognized as All-SEC," head coach Mark Beyers said. The SEC is considered the top league in the nation, and her conference record speaks to her excellent play this season. Mira sets a great example with her work ethic on and off the court, and we are proud of her."
The Lady Rebels, who are seeded No. 9 in the 2003 SEC Women's Tennis Championship, will take the courts Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. against the No. 8 seed, LSU, in the first round of the tournament. The winner will take on the No. 1 seed, Florida, Friday at 2 p.m.
