OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss freshman left-handed pitcher Stephen Head was named the Southeastern Conference's Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

Head, 6-feet-2, 218 pounds from Raymond, Miss., earned a win and a save in this past weekend's series against South Carolina in Oxford.

In last Friday's 6-5 win over the Gamecocks, Head worked 2.0 innings of relief to notch his ninth save of the year. He then started Sunday's game and fired a complete-game, two-hit shutout and struck out a season-high eight during the 2-0 victory in the series rubber-match.

Head used just 86 pitches to dispose of South Carolina in Sunday's game. He did not allow a hit past the fifth inning and only one Gamecock runner reached second.

Head also went 4-for-11 with three runs batted in at the plate in helping the Rebels to their first series win over the Gamecocks since 1995.

This is the second time this season Head has been honored by the SEC. He was named the SEC's Player of the Week back on April 6 after going 6x13 (.462) with a home run and seven RBIs and earning two saves in the Tennessee series.
